Arunachal Pradesh gets Kra Daadi as its 19th District

via Arunachal Chakma News on February 8, 2015

Itanagar: Kra Daadi is the the 19th district of Arunachal Pradesh created by bifurcating Kurung Kumey district with a view to bring administration to people’s doorstep was created on saturday 7 Feb.
The district bordering the Tibet region of China has two assembly constituencies namely Tali and Palin covering seven circle headquarters including Pipsorang, Tali, Palin, Yangte, Chambang, Gangte and Tarak Langdi.
Jamin, a virgin place situated around 20 kilometers from Palin, would be the headquarters of the new district. The state Assembly on March 20, 2013 passed the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organization of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2013, paving the way for creation of Kra Daadi along with three other new districts in the state. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki formally inaugurated the new district accompanied by his cabinet colleagues, Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs in a function organized here on the occasion.
“The district was created keeping in view the administrative bottleneck of the people who had to go to Koloriang, the headquarters of Kurung Kumey district travelling a distance of over 182 kilometers,” Tuki said in his address to a mammoth gathering. Exhorting the people to help the administration in making it a model district of the state, Tuki in his indomitable style said that no development process is possible without the support of the people.
Assuring that the state government would extend all help to make it a full-fledged district within a short time, the Chief Minister said, “A new baby was born today and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to nurture it with utmost care.” “Put all your efforts to make Kra Daadi a cynosure of all eyes in the days to come by preparing a master plan for its planned development so that administration can run smoothly and effectively,” he said citing example of the state capital which was planned haphazardly.
Highlighting various schemes and projects undergoing in the district, the Chief Minister disclosed that works on two-lane road from Joram to Koloriang was progressing satisfactorily. He said, with the coming up of 330 MW Kurung hydro power project, the economy of the district would be uplifted with opening of employment opportunities for the local educated youths. “The North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) last month inked a memorandum of agreement with the state government to execute the project soon,” he added.

PM Modi Wishes On International Women's Day

via Zee News | Last Updated: Sunday, March 8, 2015 - 10:29

New Delhi: Extending wishes on the occasion of International Women's Day, Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on Sunday hailed the “indomitable courage” of women, while at the same time he regretted the instances of crimes against women and urged to end all forms of injustice against the fairer sex.
“Today we renew our pledge to make women and equal and integral part of our developmental journey,” asserted Modi.
Modi stated that bringing a positive change in women's lives was central to the government's vision of India's progress and that several measures were taken to fulfil the same objective.
Enlisting women-centric schemes like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao yojana'” and “Sukanay Samruddhi yojana”, Modi sought to establish how the government is committed to bringing a “paradigm shift” in attitude towards the girl child.
Modi also touched upon the subject of crimes against women, urging all to walk shoulder-to-shoulder to end all forms of discriminations.
“our heads hang in shame when we hear about the instances of crimes against women,” said Modi.
Modi's remarks come at a time when the nation is still struggling to get over the sickening 2012-Nirbhaya gang-rape (with renewed outrage over the rapist's remarks that surfaced in a documentary that has now been banned in India).
International Women's Day, which is celebrated on March 8 everyday, is an occasion to salute women's achievements in all spheres.

Human Rights activists want eviction of Bangali settlers from CHT

via Dhaka Tribune on March 7, 2015

Khagrachari (CHT): Activists of different human rights bodies have suggested that eviction of Bangali settlers and army personnel would stop rape and torture on the women in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
They made the suggestion while briefing the press over the recent gang rape incident of a pregnant housewife from the Marma community in Rangamati's Kaukkhali upazila.
While talking to journalists, Chittagong Hill Tracts Nari Sangha Chairman Sonali Chakma and Hill Women's Federation Chairman Nirupa Chakma said Bangali settlers and army personnel should be evicted immediately from Chittagong Hill Tracts in order to stop rape and torture on indigenous women.
On March 5, five Bangali settlers forcefully entered Ongsimong Marma's house in Headmanpara in Kaukkhali and beat him up. Later they raped his pregnant wife.
They also robbed their mobile phone. The next day when the victims went to file a case with the Kaukhali police station, the on-duty officer denied to file the case in the absence of the officer-in-charge.
“Such incidents were on the rise because the rapists were enjoying impunity,” said Sonali Chakma.
Reading out a statement by Hill Women's Federation Secretary Minaki Chakma, they also demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
Khagrachhari Golabari Mahila Samity Chairman Chameli Marma said the incident was shocking. She demanded a probe committee be formed to investigate the incident.
Bangladesh Marma Students Council's Information and Publicity Secretary Chaihau Marma said: “The inhuman act should be addressed immediately, otherwise tougher action would be taken."
