Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi appointed as the new governor of Mizoram

NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday announced that Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi will be the new Governor of Mizoram while Qureshi's place in the Dehradun Raj Bhawan will be taken by former Delhi Police Commissioner KK Paul.

Mizoram has now got its sixth Governor in as many months since July, triggering speculation that the state has become a dumping ground for Governors that the Centre wish would quit. Qureshi had dragged the government earlier to the Supreme Court after Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami had called him few months ago, nudging him to put in his papers or face a sacking or transfer for certain alleged inappropriate comments on rapes in Uttar Pradesh.

In July, the new BJP Government has announced that the then Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman would be shifted to Nagaland. He however chose to resign though he still had a term left of nearly two years. The Centre them announced the transfer of Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal to the Mizoram Raj Bhawan in July and she duly joined there. But she was removed as a Governor on August 6 on orders of the President after the Centre forwarded a report on alleged irregularities committed by her. The Centre then announced K. Sankarnarayanan, the Maharashtra Governor, as the Governor of Mizoram but he also resigned in protest and did not join in Mizoram.

The Centre then gave additional charge of Mizoram Raj Bhawan, first to Manipur Governor VK Duggal and then to Meghalaya Governor KK Paul in September. Qureshi has now been given permanent charge of the Mizoram Raj Bhawan with Paul headed to Uttarakhand. It is unclear if Qureshi will join in Mizoram or resign or contemplate approaching the Supreme Court again. He still has a 3-year term left in office.

Long wait for a Mizoram Rural Bank branch at Kamalanagar is over

Kamalanagar (Mizonews.Net): The long wait for a branch of Mizoram Rural Bank at Kamalanagar is finally over. On December 15, the bank’s branch was inaugurated by Dangu Buddha Lila Chakma, CEM, CADC.

It has been the effort of successive authorities of CADC to establish a branch of MRB at Kamalanagar.

The opening programme of the Branch was attended by leaders and prominent citizens. The efforts to set up the branch was all praised and appreciated though the general opinion was that it was long due that the branch should have been opened.

So far Kamalanagar had a lone SBI Branch which enjoys a monopoly in the area. The customers will no more be at the mercy the SBI branch and can have a choice of preference.

As per the officials of Mizoram Rural Bank the Kamalanagar Branch is its 77th Branch. It was announced that to start the Branch shall have provision for availing Housing Loan, Business Loan, personal Loan, Agriculture Loan besides normal facilities for opening different types of account, Recurring Deposit, Term Deposit and Fixed Deposit.

The setting up of the Branch signals that the economy of the area is all set to take a leap. Lack of banking facilities in the area has been one of the primary reasons for its backwardness. Before the arrival of the lone SBI Branch the people of the area had no access to banking. The employees of CADC had to depend for loan under HUDCO. The ordinary citizens of the area belonging to traders and farming community had no option at their disposal for availing loan because of absence of access to banking facility.
