Aizawl, Aug 14 (Mizo News)/Borapansury: Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), the largest youth based NGO revered in Mizoram, is all set to proceed with its plan to take census of the Chakma population despite appeal from government to withdraw the plan.
Inviting a group of news reporters to CYMA office at Tuikhuahtlangah, Aizawl, today, CYMA leaders interacted with media over the various steps taken by the NGO for safeguarding and protecting the integrity of the state.
During the interaction, Lalbiakzuala, the sitting president of CYMA told media that despite the assumption and accusation that CYMA has gone too far away from its main objective, the Youth association will go forward with strong unity and would be involved with a matter out site its jurisdiction if the matter is for the goodness of the people and their land. He said that YMA will not hesitate to take action on any matter if it is for the goodness of the people and the land.
Speaking about Chakma cesus, Lalbiakzuala said the proposed general census would be conducted meticulously in such a way that it does not give rise communal tension. It is rather an attempt to identify foreigners and stop their influx into Mizoram, Lalbiakzuala said.
He added that although the NGO found the government’s appeal respectful, it could not fulfilled the latter request as the youth association is acting based on the committee decision rather than individual consent. “The proposed general census of Chakma population as intended would be conducted in a way not to stir communal tension but to identify and cast out foreigners”, Lalbiakzuala said adding that the plan has also been morally supported by different Chakma NGOs.
He warned that no political party should utilize the general census for political advantage.
Speaking on the demand for resignation of Chakma Minister Dr. BD Chakma, CYMA President said there was no an instance of personal enmity in the demand for Minister’s resignation.
“Earlier in our appeal to the state government, we demanded the resignation of Dr. BD Chakma for his unconstitutional and illegal present at ethnic based meeting. We demanded his resignation because he was going against government system despite his being inducted as minister by an oath”, the president said. He also added that the leaders of CYMA is likely to meet CM Lal Thanhawla over Dr. BD Chakma’s resignation
