Aizawl, May 13/Borapansury: State Election Commission (SEC) today issued notification for Bye-election in 3 Autonomous District Councils in the state, which shall be on June 4, 2014.
Bye-elections are to be held in 1 MDC constituency of Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC); 2 MDC constituencies of Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC); and 1 MDC constituency of Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) as the MDC seats are left vacant due to elevation o the incumbents to State MLA and Minister in some cases and due to death of the incumbent in one case. According to the SEC notification, respective Returning Officers will issue Notice of Election on 15th May, 2014 and Nomination will be entertained till 3:00 p.m. of 21st May, 2014. Scrutiny of the nominations shall be held after 3:00 p.m. of the of the last day of filling nomination and time for withdrawal shall be opened till 3:00 p.m. of the next day i.e. 22nd May, 2014. Symbols will be allotted to the Candidates on 23rd May, 2014 during 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on the same day, List of Candidates will also be published and the same shall be sent to SEC by Returning Officers on the same day.
As per the SEC notification, the Bye-election shall be held on June 4 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Re-Poll, if any shall be held the next day i.e. on June 5. Counting of votes will be held on June 6, from 10:00 a.m. and the election process is to be over by 13th June.
Bye-election is necessary in 2-Borapansury- II of CADC as the seat has been left vacant by Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma, and in 10-Lawngtlai Bazar (LADC), being left vacant by C.Ngunlianchunga; in 24-Tuithumhnar (LADC) due to death of J.H.Lallianngura; and in 11-Tuipang II (MADC) being left vacant by Hiphei.
