AIZAWL: Pre-monsoon rains, accompanied by hailstorm lashed Mizoram on Saturday, destroying more than one thousand houses in different parts of the state.
As per official reports, border Mamit district, central Mizoram’s Serchhip district, Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai district and south Mizoram’s Lunglei district were hit by the hailstorm leaving a total of more than one thousand houses damaged, either partially or totally.
Hundreds of tin-roofed houses were damaged by hail which were as big as eggs, reports said.
The actual damage caused by the hailstorm would be known only after receipt of detailed reports from the administration of the affected districts, the officials said.
